NUS Registration

It is essential that you are a member of the National Union of Students if you are going on tour, it is also recommended that you become a member even if you are not going.
Why? The NUS card provides you with a level of insurance while participating in sporting events organized by the Union.

Two types of NUS card are available:

1. The NUS Democracy Card – Free, gives you membership and some discounts.
2. The NUS Extra Card – Costs £10, gives you membership and many discounts.

You DO NOT have to buy the NUS Extra Card, either card will meet the above requirement. Also by becoming a member of the NUS you can subscribe to a number of mailing lists and find out about what they are doing for you as a student and interesting events and offers.

To find out more about the NUS cards visit: http://www.upsu.net/essentials/registration
NUS Extra information: http://www.nus.org.uk/en/NUS-Extra/
To register or re-register visit: http://www.upsu.net/registration/register

Once registered on-line you can collect your card from the Reception desk between the following times: http://www.upsu.net/registration/help/issueing/

If you do not already have your NUS card you MUST register and collect it as soon as possible, the Union will stop issuing cards very soon. – So go this week.

University Sports Tour: Update No. 1

Tour is a long way in the distance right now, but it will come round very quickly.

The next payment of £190 is due in before 30th January 2009. You can pay before in installments if you wish. Payments need to be made in the Union Cash Office.

Some more information is needed about everyone who is going on tour, please send the following information to Emily:
1. Passport Number (Really long number, make sure you get it right.)
2. Next of Kin details (Name, Relation to you, address, contact number.)
3. Details of any dietary requirements. (Vegan, Vegiterian, Nut allergies, etc.)

Tour Shirt: We have to think of a logo and a clean slogan for our tour shirts. (Keep it clean and not related to alcohol.) Post your suggestions in the forum or discuss them at training.

Sleeping Arrangements: Get thinking about who you want to share a room with. The rooms are single sex rooms. We believe that each room will sleep three people, but this is yet to be confirmed.

Late Arrivals: If you know of anyone else who wants to go on tour but missed the deadline, let Emily know because they can have their name put on a waiting list. (Some people drop out.)

That’s all for now. Another update will be posted soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

University Sports Tour

Would you like the chance to play Octopush in Spain?

Every year the University goes on tour, this Year they are going to Salo in Spain. (Map)

Tug has been organising some matches against Spanish teams, so far two matches are lined up & their is talk of a tournament of some sort.

Unfortunately the Union stipulates that only Students are allowed on the tour, apologies to the non-Student members. If we are going to go, there must be at least ten of us so that we can play the matches.

The tour is from the 4th of April 2009 until the 10th April 2009, which is the first week of the Easter Holidays. If you would like to come on Tour it will cost you £250. You must pay the first deposit of £60 into the Student Union Cash Office (Next to reception.) by Wednesday the 29th October 2008. (This is a deadline set by the Union, not UPOC.) – Pay before Wednesday because it will get really busy on the day. If you have paid your deposit please email us via the contact page, select “Tour” and tell us your date of birth.

The cost includes, Coach Transport, Hotel (Half Board, so you get dinner.) & a Tour Shirt. The hotel where we will be staying is located near lots of bars and clubs so the evenings will be very sociable.

Tug our Vice President is organising the Tour this year, once we know some more information we will update you all, so keep your eyes peeled!
